"Khoj" means search, and the song tracks a search that expands until it becomes absurd — which is exactly the point. It begins with a request not to be looked at, moves through the sky and the underworld and the clouds, and ends up out past the moon and the stars, still not finding the meeting it is looking for.
The weather imagery in the opening is the most economical writing in the song. She arrived as a breeze; the fear is that tomorrow she becomes a storm and carries herself away. One substance, two forms, and the difference between them is whether she stays.
The middle section contains the song's genuine insight, and it is stated as a pair of discoveries rather than a complaint. He did not know love could be like this until she came. He did not know shade was cool until he had stood in the sun. Both say the same thing: some conditions can only be recognised by losing them, and knowledge arrives too late by design.
The ending refuses the obvious resolution. Rather than accepting that the meeting is not available, he says he will go up anyway, tearing through the sky and past the clouds — and then immediately undercuts it by asking who is at fault and answering that it was limited to this much, written into fate.
