About "Jham Jham Paryo Pani" by KTA HARU
"Jham jham" is onomatopoeia for heavy, steady rain, and the song is built on it the way a folk song is built on a refrain — repeated until it becomes weather rather than words. "Sararara" joins it as the sound of rain running off.
What makes this more than a pop hook is how densely local it is. Gurja, Lulang, Tagam, Myagdi, Beni, Mareni — these are all real places in and around Myagdi district in western Nepal, and the song moves through them like a map. The Myagdi river floods down from the Gurja mine; a spin in a motor means a trip to Beni bazaar; the house at Lulang might shift. Nothing is generalised into "the hills" or "the village".
