Lyrics

Ek Sarvanaam Lyrics in English (Romanized)

Manka kuraa ek baaji sunna
Ek sarvanaam liau timi ra ma

Haami bani haami ani bitaaulaa
Jindagi sangai sadhai bhari

Maayaa cha ta aruko ke pir
Bolaau malaai aauchu timrai tira

Timro naau manai maa bokera
Hera hera hera hera

Ma ta aauchu maayaalu
Timilaai nai khojera
Timro manko thegaanaa
Mero manlaai sodhera

Bhana ta bhanna nalajaai maayaa
Othmaa adekaa kuraa sabai
Timro haatle koreko kahaani
Kudera raakhulaa mero manmai

Aanti hera saati hera man
Yasai usai jaso taso ma ta
Timro naau manaimaa bokera
Hera hera hera hera

Ma ta aauchu maayaalu
Timilaai nai khojera
Timro manko thegaanaa
Mero manlaai sodhera

Yastari kina jhumcha jindagi mero
Yastari kina jhumcha jindagi mero

Maayaa naachna malaai raakhna
Timro angaalomaa baadhera
Daayaa baayaa jhumaun maayaa
Ekaichin oth saatera

Ek Sarvanaam Lyrics — English Translation & Meaning

To hear what the heart has to say, just once —
let you and I take up a single pronoun

Becoming "we", we will spend
this life together, always

If there is love, why care what others say?
Call me, and I will come your way

Carrying your name inside my heart —
look, look, look, look

I will come, beloved,
searching only for you,
asking my own heart
for the address of yours

Go on, say it, don't be shy of love —
everything stalled at the edge of your lips
The story your hand once traced,
I will run and keep it safe inside my heart

Try it, dare it, trade hearts with me
One way or another, somehow, I —
carrying your name inside my heart —
look, look, look, look

I will come, beloved,
searching only for you,
asking my own heart
for the address of yours

Why does my life sway like this?
Why does my life sway like this?

To make love dance, to keep me
tied inside your arms —
let's sway left and right, my love,
trading lips for a moment

About "Ek Sarvanaam" by Sajjan Raj Vaidya

The title "Ek Sarvanaam" means "one pronoun", and it is one of the most precise images in modern Nepali songwriting. The narrator is not asking for marriage, a date, or even a declaration. He is asking that two people who currently say "I" and "you" agree to start saying "we". It is a grammatical proposal that happens to be a romantic one.

Nepali makes this land harder than English does, because the language marks intimacy and distance in its pronouns directly — the choice between timi, tapai and ta is a social fact, not a stylistic one. Asking someone to share a pronoun is asking them to formally reclassify the relationship. The second line spells out the consequence: haami bani haami, having become "we", we will spend this life together.

The most inventive image is the address. He does not know where her heart lives, so he asks his own heart for directions — "timro manko thegaanaa, mero manlaai sodhera". It is a lovely admission that he is navigating by feeling rather than information.

The song is also unusually generous about her silence. Rather than demanding an answer, he describes what is happening to her: "othmaa adekaa kuraa sabai", everything stalled at the edge of her lips. He can see she has something to say and is not able to say it, and instead of pressing, he offers to carry her unspoken story inside his own heart until she can.
