Lyrics

Ho Ho Ho Ho…

Aadha Tera Ishq Aadha Mera
Aise Ho Poora Chandrama
Ho Taara Tera Ik Taara Mera
Baaki Andhera Aasmaan

Na Tere Sang Laage
Bandhe Jo Pipal Pe Dhaage
Yeh Surme Ke Dhaare
Behte Hai Nazrein Bacha Ke

Badrang Mein Satranga Hai Yeh Ishq Re
Jogi Main Aur Ganga Hai Yeh Ishq Re
Badrang Mein Satranga Hai Yeh Ishq Re
Jogi Main Aur Ganga Hai Yeh Ishq Re
Ho Ho Ho Ho…

Maathe Se Laga Loon Haath
Chhu Ke Main Pair Tere
Ho Rakh Loon Main Tan Pe Zakhm
Bana Saare Bair Tere
Rukna Ni Tu
Hunn Russna Ni Main

Tera Ni Reha
Te Na Khud Da Vi Main
Duniya Tu Hi Hai Meri
Par Na Aana Ab Na Aana
Main Ni Aana Shehar Tere

Jo Phere Sang Lage
Rakhte Woh Humko Jala Ke
Woh Vaade Jhoothe Vaade
Le Ja Tu Kasmein Laga Ke

Rag Rag Mein Malanga Hai Yeh Ishq Re
Kyun Lahu Mein Hi Ranga Hai Yeh Ishq Re
Ho Badrang Mein Satranga Hai Yeh Ishq Re
Jogi Main Aur Ganga Hai Yeh Ishq Re
Ho Ho Ho Ho…

Tu Meri Saari Yaadein
Paani Mein Aaj Baha De
Yeh Teri Bheegi Aankhein
Rakh Loon Labon Se Laga Ke

Main Samandar Parinda Hai Yeh Ishq Re
Mann Maatam Aur Zinda Hai Yeh Ishq Re
Ho Badrang Mein Satranga Hai Yeh Ishq Re
Jogi Main Aur Ganga Hai Yeh Ishq Re

Ho Ho.. Badrang Mein
Satranga Hai Yeh Ishq Re
Jogi Main Aur Ganga Hai Yeh Ishq Re

SATRANGA Lyrics — English Translation & Meaning

Ho ho ho ho...

Half your love and half mine —
let them together make one whole moon
One star yours, one star mine,
and the rest of the sky is darkness

They do not hold where you are concerned,
the threads tied on the peepal tree
These streaks of kohl
run down, slipping past the watching eyes

Inside the colourless, this love is seven-coloured
I am the wandering ascetic and this love is the Ganga
Inside the colourless, this love is seven-coloured
I am the wandering ascetic and this love is the Ganga
Ho ho ho ho...

Let me raise my hands to my forehead,
let me touch your feet
Let me keep the wounds upon my body,
let all your enmities become mine
Do not stop now
And I will not sulk now

I am no longer yours,
and no longer my own either
You are my entire world,
but do not come now, do not come —
I will not come to your city

The vows we took walking the circles
keep us burning
Those promises, those false promises —
take them with you, swear them and go

In every vein this love is a wandering mystic
Why is this love dyed in blood itself
Inside the colourless, this love is seven-coloured
I am the wandering ascetic and this love is the Ganga
Ho ho ho ho...

Take every memory you have of me
and set it floating on the water today
These wet eyes of yours —
let me hold them against my lips

I am the ocean and this love is a bird
The heart is in mourning and this love is alive
Inside the colourless, this love is seven-coloured
I am the wandering ascetic and this love is the Ganga

Ho ho... inside the colourless
this love is seven-coloured
I am the wandering ascetic and this love is the Ganga

About "SATRANGA" by Arijit Singh

The title turns on a contrast that English loses. "Badrang" means colourless, drab, spoiled; "satranga" means seven-coloured, a rainbow. The hook says that inside something entirely without colour, this love is a rainbow — which is either a description of transcendence or of delusion, and the song deliberately refuses to say which.

The imagery throughout is devotional rather than romantic, and that is the point. The narrator calls himself a jogi, a renunciate, and calls the love the Ganga — the river a jogi would bathe in, worship, and scatter ashes into. He touches her feet, takes her enmities onto his own body as wounds, and describes the marriage vows as something that keeps them burning. Love here is not companionship; it is a religious practice with a cost.

The turn in the second verse is the sharpest writing in the song. "Tera ni reha te na khud da vi main" — I am not yours, and not my own either — describes a person who has been emptied by the relationship without being kept by it. And then, immediately after calling her his entire world, he tells her not to come, and says he will not come to her city. Both people are being refused access at once.

Written by Siddharth-Garima and sung by Arijit Singh for Animal, it belongs to a film about a man whose devotion is indistinguishable from damage, and the song's imagery is consistent with that reading rather than softening it.
