"Perfect" is Ed Sheeran writing deliberately inside a tradition rather than around it — a slow waltz in 6/8, built to be a first-dance song at weddings, and openly modelled on the standards his parents danced to. Sheeran has said he wanted to write something in the mould of Van Morrison's "Have I Told You Lately", and the song makes no attempt to disguise the lineage.
